To renew your residence permit, you must officially pay yourself at least the minimum salary based on the job complexity category. Slovakia has 6 categories, each with a different minimum salary level.

Your category depends on your official job title.

Minimum salary levels are indexed annually. For example, in 2025, the minimum salary for category 1 is:
• 816 € gross (before employee taxes),
• 1 111 € supergross (total cost for the employer, before employer taxes),
• 664 € net (take-home pay after taxes)
Total: 447 € in taxes and contributions.

Minimum Salary in Slovakia

One of the key conditions for obtaining and renewing a residence permit based on employment in Slovakia is receiving an official salary. The law requires that the foreigner is employed and earns at least the minimum wage for the corresponding job complexity category.

In 2025, the following monthly minimum salary levels apply in Slovakia:

What the values in the table mean:
• Gross salary — the amount stated in the employment contract. Income tax and social and health contributions are deducted from this.
• Supergross — the total cost of the employee for the employer, including gross salary and employer-paid contributions (about +35% on top of gross).
• Net salary — the amount the employee receives after all taxes and mandatory deductions.
• Taxes and Contributions — the total of mandatory payments to state funds, including both employer and employee contributions, and income tax paid by the employee.
